✅ Check the simple stuff first
- Make sure the patient is safe — swap in a backup unit if you need to.
- Reproduce the complaint yourself and write down exactly what you see (screen, alarm, code).
- Check power, battery, cables, accessories, and settings before ordering parts.
- Then open the service manual above and follow its troubleshooting section.
🛠️ Common faults for PageWriter TC50/TC70 (7)
All leads show Leads Off (red dashed lines) continuously source ↗
- Check that the RL/N lead and electrode are secure
- PIM-disconnected icon at top right: reseat the USB patient data cable at the PIM and the rear PIM port
- Run the PIM test: if it fails, replace the patient data cable; if it still fails, replace the PIM
- Leads fully seated in the PIM; no cracks; run the lead-wire open/short test
Leads Off on one or more leads intermittently source ↗
- Proper skin prep; clean, secure lead adapters; in-date electrodes
- After defib or noise the PIM re-arranges automatically; if it persists, send for PIM or lead cable service
- Normal: PIM resets (red dashes up to 10 s) on power-up/wake, screen change, or USB stick insert
AC line interference source ↗
- New electrodes and skin abrasion; check expiry
- Route the leads along the limbs away from poorly grounded equipment
- Move the cart away; unplug and run on battery; unplug electric beds
Baseline wander source ↗
- Relax the patient; the leads must not pull the electrodes
- Reapply the electrodes; turn on the wander filter (Status bar > Settings); move the leads away from chest motion
Tremor or muscle artifact source ↗
- Limb electrodes flat on non-muscular areas, nearer the trunk; keep the patient warm
- Turn on the artifact filter (Status bar > Settings)
Intermittent or jittery trace source ↗
- Clean sites and reapply the electrodes; reposition or replace the faulty patient cable
Poor print quality (uneven contrast or blank streaks) source ↗
- Clean the printhead; use recommended paper
🧰 Common checks for ECG (2)
Leads off / bad waveform source ↗
- Swap patient cable, then harness, then ECG board
Power/battery source ↗
- Check AC fuses; fewer than 10 reports per charge = replace battery
