✅ Check the simple stuff first
- Make sure the patient is safe — swap in a backup unit if you need to.
- Reproduce the complaint yourself and write down exactly what you see (screen, alarm, code).
- Check power, battery, cables, accessories, and settings before ordering parts.
- Then open the service manual above and follow its troubleshooting section.
🛠️ Common faults for SURETEMP PLUS (7)
Battery indications source ↗
- Blinking frame + 'b' arrow = battery out of range; single blinking segment = low
- Replace batteries
'A' with arrow source ↗
- Ambient outside 10–40 °C: move to normal room temp
Probe or instrument with an X source ↗
- Probe X = probe fault, usually replace probe
- Instrument X = internal fault; read code in Biotech mode Error Log
Reading out of tolerance (calibration check) source ↗
- Verify with the 9600 Plus Calibration Tester (01802-110) or the SureTemp Calibration Key (06138-000)
- Field repairs are limited to calibration check, probe/well, battery and unit replacement
Need software version or error log (Biotech mode) source ↗
- 692: place it in the wall holder; hold Recall while pulling the probe, then release
- Recall steps through the categories (device/algorithm version, ID, error log); Mode or C/F changes values; returning the probe exits; times out after 5 min
Battery drains during cleaning or storage source ↗
- Unplug the latching probe connector when removing the well; reconnect until it snaps in
Wrong probe or well, or probe damaged source ↗
- Blue well for oral/axillary (02891-000), red for rectal (02891-100)
- Probe kits: oral 02893-000 (4 ft) / -100 (9 ft); rectal 02892-000 / -100
- Use only Welch Allyn covers (05031-750); biting the tip damages the probe
🔢 SURETEMP PLUS error codes (15)
| Code | Meaning | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| E0.1 | Excessive heater energy | Retry; then replace probe source ↗ |
| E0.2 | A/D out of range | Keep ambient 10–40 °C; then replace probe source ↗ |
| E0.4 | Probe over temperature (>43.3 °C) | Let tip cool; then replace probe source ↗ |
| E0.5 | No probe temperature rise | Retry; then replace probe source ↗ |
| E0.6 | Probe EEPROM read failure | Fresh batteries; then replace probe source ↗ |
| E0.7 | Probe EEPROM un-initialized | Fresh batteries; then replace probe source ↗ |
| E0.8 | EEPROM CRC failure | Fresh batteries; then contact Welch Allyn source ↗ |

| E5.2 | Heater fail-safe failure | Contact Welch Allyn source ↗ |
🧰 Common checks for Vital Signs Monitors (2)
Won't power on source ↗
- Confirm AC cord/outlet and battery charge
- Check internal power/battery harnesses
- Measure power supply output against spec (15 V DC on Welch Allyn Connex and Philips VS3)
- Charge battery fully; replace if still empty
Touchscreen issues source ↗
- Check whether touch is disabled/locked
- Calibrate touchscreen
- Check touchscreen cables before replacing parts
